Course description:

This 4-day training course in collaboration with SecureCell, introduces and develops the application of PAT tools to monitor and control cell culture processes. The principles of PAT and QbD will be defined, discussed and put into practice. This involves understanding and using on-line measurement techniques for continuous, real-time process characterization, combined with automated sampling systems and at-line analytical methods. Such methods include the design and application of the automated sampling and liquid-handling system Numera and the on-line data acquisition software Lucullus which allow rapid and efficient control of critical process parameters (CPP).

Who should attend?

This course is intended for any people working in a research or production environment, particularly in USP and process-automation, who has a basic understanding of cell culture techniques but wishes to extend their knowledge and apply modern data acquisition and control systems. No prior knowledge of process automation or measurement techniques is required. Therefore the course is suitable for biologists, cell culture specialists, process designers/ developers, automation engineers and anyone with an interest in improving process understanding.

What are the learning outcomes?

Participants should be able to:

  • Define and implement PAT tools
  • Understand the need for monitoring CPPs
  • Use a range of on- and at-line quantitative analytical methods (IPC)
  • Use multivariate data analysis and DoE
  • Use Numera for process sampling and automation
  • Use Lucullus to monitor and control a process

How is the course structured?

The course is a mixture of interactive presentations and hands-on practical work in a GMP-like environment. Practical work will be carried out in small groups with a maximum of 2-3 people per group to ensure hands-on experience at all time.
